Public Sewage in Markleysburg
We’re working to make it a reality.
Our Act 537 Sewage Feasibility Study received approval from the DEP and application for funding, both grants and loans, through PennVest has been submitted. Eligible grant amount will be determined by PennVest and we should receive notification of it by mid-May. The EADS Group has been very diligent throughout the process and Council is extremely pleased with their engineering services.
Prior to approval of the Act 537, the DEP insisted Henry Clay Township Supervisors become involved. Township officials signed an intermunicipal agreement with the Borough concerning the sewage project.
Only portions of the Township will be included in this project; not the Township as a whole. Township properties required to tap-in include: from Borough line along Rt 281 to Rt 40 (Bruceton Road) and parts of all side roads including Mud Pike Rd and Braddock Rd.
Due to the type of funding we are seeking and for sanitary reasons, sewage hook-up will be mandatory for those within the scope of the project.
According to our Act 537 Plan, engineers have tentativley determined that monthly fees would be set at under $35. Residential tap-in fees are expected to be $350. Please note these numbers are subject to change.
UPDATE!!!! PennVest met early in May and Markleysburg’s Sewage Project was awarded the following funding:
GRANT: $2,467,597
LOAN: $41,403 (20 years @ 1% interest)
Over 98% of the total cost of our project will be funded through a PennVest GRANT!!

Marclay Gets to STAY!
Efforts to keep Marclay Elementary School open pay off.
At the Uniontown Area School District Board of Directors meeting held on September 9, 2002, a VERY important decision was made. That decision...TO KEEP MARCLAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AT MARCLAY. A new school will be built onsite!! Many concerned parents, residents and Markleysburg Borough Council members attended the meeting and received the news first-hand.
Our community thanks the School Board for their committment to building a new Marclay School and enthusiastically anticipate the new construction. We especially thank the following Directors for their support and voting in favor of the project:
Ronald Machesky
Susan Clay
Nancy Herring
Ken Meadows
Tammy Boyle
Charles Castor
Special thanks to Markleysburg Borough Mayor Doug Friend and Henry Clay Twp resident Sandy Hager for speaking on behalf of our community. This campaign to save Marclay was very much a joint effort and much appreciation is extended to everyone who participated in any way.
